The informality of the Shishigashira variety of Japanese Maple makes it a cherished and prized specimen in the broadleaf genre of bonsai. This tree's quirky, elongated, literati form, is irregular and unique for this highly coveted varietal. Staged in the Horst Heinzlreiter container, the mother-daughter form makes this a rewarding piece for a collection at any level of experience.
This tree has never been wired. It was pruned for shape over multiple years on the mother stock and then air-layered on site at Mirai. It's become a cherished composition in the garden that is tough to let go of. We are looking forward to seeing it further evolve in a loving practitioner's hands. It was moved from grow pots into its current container in spring 2025 and is now firmly established and growing with health.
