This Scots pine, from the collection of Mike Pollock, shows a tremendous amount of time and age in a bonsai container. Beyond its antiquity, this tree also has a very traditional aesthetic. The subtle movement, strong base, and beautiful branching structure execute traditional design in a pleasing and fundamentally sound way.
This tree is starting to ramify and back bud profusely as its needles get shorter every year. Having been repotted this year, it has five to eight years of healthy growth ahead in its current container.
You're looking at a tree with a world of evolution that is entering the refinement phase, on its way to becoming a show-worthy, or potentially even show-winning tree.
