There are cascading bonsai, and then there are bonsai that are meant to be cascades. This Ponderosa Pine is meant to be a cascade. The incredible base is followed immediately by an acute angle of drop below the pot. The wonderful interaction of live and deadwood tell a rugged tale as this stunningly elegant, feminine ponderosa pine hangs over the edge of the beautiful Me and Raimondi vessel.
Originally collected by Todd Schlafer, this tree was styled and maintained for several years by talented Mirai student Mike Pollock. That time is training is seen in the established structure of the tree. As it continues to back-bud, expand its needle mass, refine its pads, and enhance its density the quality of the overall composition will only get tighter and more refined.
Repotted this spring and freshly rewired, it's ready to be taken to the next step of evolution and refinement.
