Wisteria are valued by the quality of their flowers. This Japanese Wisteria carries some of the most elegant, long pendulous racemes we've seen. The spring bloom is dependable, fragrant and often gives secondary cycles of flowering dispersed through the summer. Layered from an iconic Japanese wisteria in one of Seattle's established neighborhoods, the tree was potted this spring and grew an aggressive root system in a single season. Now firmly established next year is on track to be highly productive in its evolution. It carries a large wound in the upper trunk that has already compartmentalized, but will need reduction and oversize to heal.
The most important element of this composition, however, isn't the tree, it's the container. The Horst Heinzlreiter ceramic was an entry into the 2013 Aki-ten ceramic competition and was accepted into their ceramic display. Combined with the beauty and uniqueness of this upright wisteria's form and its incredibly pendulous flowers, this composition is destined to give joy throughout the year and rapidly increase in quality as a bonsai.
