This Scots pine, grafted onto collected Ponderosa Pine stock, is now developing a solid secondary structure and entering the refinement phase. Set in a stunning low-slung container from Me and Raimondi, the elegant, sophisticated form complements the short needles and bluish-gray color of the sylvestris foliage. Moving forward, this tree will continue to gain complexity and angularity in the branching, as it expands tertiary buds into active needle count. As needles reduce in size the improved scale will maximize its presence in bonsai form.
Two years after repotting, the wire is still holding strong. This tree has a few more years before any significant work is needed. The rebar can come off at any time.
