There are "interesting" trees, and then there are flat-out one-of-a-kind, unique and weird trees. This is one of those weird trees for bonsai lovers seeking that one-of-a-kind, never-seen-before piece. This Douglas Fir is a true representation of an exposed-root specimen on an eroding hillside. Collected by Adam Johnson in the Rocky Mountains, this tree has tremendous age, fantastic bark, and a very narrow, elegant silhouette, accurate to the form of Douglas fir.

The crescent Jan Culek container provides environmental context of slope and erosion with the irregular aesthetic that making this a standalone piece in any collection. Now in secondary development, buds are forming on old wood and the tree is beginning to ramify. In three to five years, this will be a dense, showable tree in the hands of someone giving it the love and attention it deserves.
