This Ponderosa Pine, collected by Randy Knight from the Rocky Mountains, is 85 years old and has been in training for six years. Originally styled by Mike Pollock, it is housed in a modern Chinese container. This impressive Ponderosa Pine is ideally sized for collections that don't focus on acquiring massive trees. The angularity and flare of the base deadwood, originating from the trunk, are echoed throughout the tree’s characteristics as it progresses upwards. Its beautiful branching structure enhances its appeal. As a medium-sized Ponderosa Pine, it exhibits all the right traits to become a fantastic specimen in a growing container. The tree has been repotted to improve its health and shows remarkable signs of back budding and a high degree of ramification. It is expected to accelerate its growth and evolution.
While the second-year needles reveal some past health issues, the newer needles are beautiful, and the large buds and prevalent back budding indicate a healthy and desirable tree. This Ponderosa Pine is definitely show-worthy and will impress when fully matured. It may benefit from a pot update in the future.
