This Scots Pine, grown at Telperion Farms, is a remarkable example of bonsai craftsmanship. At 15 years old and with three years of training, it was originally styled by Ryan Neil and is presented in a modern Chinese container. This tree is one of the notable rescues from the tragic Telperion Fire.
Significant work has been done on the middle portion of the trunk, transforming large cuts and stumps into hollows and deadwood. This not only improves the taper transition but also enhances the tree's potential. With its rich history linked to Chris Kirk, Gary Wood, and Telperion Farms, the Scots Pine has seen both initial styling and a secondary iteration of design.
Now, the tree is beginning to settle into a promising future, with further ramification and needle reduction expected. It will soon showcase the wonderfully ramified pads that make Pinus sylvestris one of the finest pine species in bonsai. This is a tree to build a collection around, as its structure is well-established, the design is on a great trajectory, and it will continue to mature and refine beautifully.
