His smooth containers offers both function and beauty. What Horst’s smooth containers sacrifice in texture they more than make up for with his complex glazes that provide an incredible depth of colors and a vast surface of moving and shifting tones. Horst’s craftsmanship is even more evident by the patina on the surface of his glazed containers. Each container is rubbed down with special cloth until the surface shine is dulled to a perfect glow.

His textured finishes show off Horst's brilliant surfacing technique which he masterfully uses to create incredible depth and dimension in his containers. The shifting hues and varying colors come from multiple applications of color to the ceramic body as it's being textured to create a unique and evocative container the likes of which only a potter of Horst’s skill can create.
