This Gyokucho Razorsaw from Japan have a blade that has been "Impulsed Hardened". Impulse Hardening was developed to create a saw blade with a long working life. The cutting edge is heated for 0.003-0.005 seconds by applying an electrical current at 27.12MHz. This creates a shock wave on the surface of each tooth which hardens it to Hv900~1200. For comparison, sharpening files are only hardened to Hv800~850. This tempers only the surface leaving the core of the tooth flexible.
Also, the Razorsaw blades have a special surface treatment to minimize tarnishing and rusting as well as increasing durability. A chemical process, rather than an electrical current, is used to plate the Razorsaw blade with a micro-thin nickel coating. The sue of the chemical process results in a plating which has a uniform thickness. The plating process produces such a smooth surface that adhesion of tree resins is greatly reduced. Cleanup is easily accomplished with warm water.
The blade is Laser Marked with specifications (article name, number, blade thickness and length). If you should ever need to replace the saw or the blade, the information is immediately available.
Like all of our saws, the Gyokucho Razorsaws cut on the Pull stroke, as opposed to conventional push stroke saws. Cutting on the pull stroke prevents the blade from bending, reduces binding, and improves smoothness of the cut.
