This container by Oregon ceramicist Jan Rentenaar combines the ruggedness of nature with the refined beauty of an incredibly artistic eye. Although known for her sculpture, Jan’s reputation as a potter is growing rapidly. Her surge in popularity is due to the magnificent organic forms Jan creates as she pulls inspiration from her Pacific Northwest environment and from other natural elements. Jan’s containers also embody an extra flare of visual interest via her use of a traditional Anagama kiln to wood-fire her pieces. Although unglazed, the Anagama kiln adds its own colors and textures during the 4 day firing process generating one-of-a-kind containers that are functional and can never be duplicated.
