Japanese Black Pine No. 1

This Japanese black pine is one of the last true and legendary black pines from the upper fields of Telperion Farms.

During its original apical thickening phase, a massive snowstorm crushed all of the elongated apices, creating almost yamadori-like pairs. Dramatic branch shapes give this black pine a completely nuanced and wonderful character, unique to the trees from that specific field and time in Telperion lore. There are a limited number of Telperion trees that have been built to this point since Telperion Farms was devastatingly lost to the Oregon wildfires in 2020.

Still needing one more year with the rebar to solidify a dramatic bend put into the branching, this black pine’s ramification, style, design and refinement is well on its way. A change in the front seems to expand the base and present the branching at its very best–but the future of this tree is completely in the next owner’s hands. Humbled by the circumstances of this tree, Mirai is ready to pass on this very special Telperion pine to a caring and loving home to represent the work of Chris Kirk, Lisa Kirk and Gary Woods for years to come.
